Irene Adler aka the Plaid Adder fittingly pens a story involving snakes, in fact the snake of the canon, the swamp adder of the Speckled Band. This snake, as Sherlockians have long known, is entirely unknown to medical science and exhibits traits so unlike any real snake, that it casts doubts on whether Holmes correctly solved the case. So when a certain someone points out Holmes's error to him, Holmes determinedly reopens the case and discovers disturbing truths about the Stoner twins and Watson's marriage to Mary Morstan.
